Chocolate sauce is the most universal topping/add-in for desserts and drinks. You can top it on fruit, ice cream, and cakes. Or mix it in your protein shake or coffee for a sweet additive.
The downside of most conventional chocolate sauces is that they are filled with junk; such as artificial sweeteners and preservatives that harm your body. So, I have a fantastic recipe for a healthy chocolate sauce that fancy’s your cravings—without all the chemicals!
This recipe is also fun to play around with the flavor. I like to add either cinnamon and allspice for a warming aspect, cayenne pepper for a Mexican chocolate imitation, or even a little orange zest for a fresh element. The flavor combinations are endless!
Healthy Chocolate Sauce
Vegan, Gluten Free, Paleo, Clean
Ingredients
½ cup agave (or honey)
¼ cup cacao powder (or cocoa)
1 ¼ cups Water
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp allspice
A pinch cayenne pepper(optional)
½ tsp Orange zest(optional)
Directions
- Add water, agave, and cacao powder to saucepan at medium heat, stir till combined
- Add vanilla, allspice and any optional ingredients, bring to boil and then simmer for 5-7 minutes.
Serve over milk, fruit, or drizzle over desserts.
Note:
After simmering, be sure the spoon comes out coated!
It looks really good! Does it thicken up at all?

It does slightly, but if you use honey in place of agave it will thicken up a little more; I tend to enjoy it a little thinner. Hope that helped!:)
